Witr du’a

O Allah, grant us fear of You that will be a barrier between us and sin, and grant us obedience of you that will enter us into paradise, and grant us faith that will lighten the weight of calamities that befall us, and allow us to be of sound sight, hearing and strength as long as we live, and make our vengeance not transgress beyond those who oppress us, and give us victory over those who seek to harm us, and don’t make our problems be in our religious commitment and expression, and don’t make the dunya the majority of our expertise or our obsession, and don’t make our destiny the hellfire, and make paradise our destined destination, and do not give authority over us (due to our sins) those who won’t (fear You or) have mercy on us.

O Allah, we are by our sins burdened, and by our mistakes fatigued, blinded by our ignorance, our lust and greed, we call upon You the calling of those humbled and broken, we are in need of Your mercy and You are not in need of punishing us. So free us from the fire, and our loved ones, and our teachers, and those who have rights over us, our brothers and sisters, free us all from the fire. O Allah raise our names to You. O Allah conceal our faults above the earth and beneath it and conceal them on the day we meet you. Make our inner selves better than the outer, and make our outer selves righteous. Make the best of our deeds the last deeds. And the best days, the day we meet You.

How patient are You with us o Allah, we sin against You with the blessings You give us and You forgive. We ask You by every name that You have, raise our ranks, conceal our faults. We have no helper other than You, we are Your slaves. How many a blessing have You given us and we were little in our thanks, how many a test did You give us and we were little in our patience, how many a sin did You witness us committing and You never exposed us. O Allah we believe in You, and think the best of You, have mercy on this ummah, You don’t reject those who ask You, grant us what we ask You. O Allah we love You. O Allah we love You, and we love those who love You, have mercy on those who love You, and forgive those who love You, and overlook the faults of those who love You, and heal those who love You.

O Allah as You’ve allowed us to experience the month of Ramadan, allow us to be forgiven. Forgive us, be with us, don’t punish us. Forgive us, be with us, don’t punish us. There is nothing that allows us to have the ability to stand before You, with all of our shortcomings and faults, except what You’ve taught us of Your Forgiveness. There is nothing that allows our feet to carry us in Your Presence, with all of our sins and our mistakes, except what You’ve taught us of Your Mercy. O Allah if Your Mercy is only for the righteous, then who is for the broken weighed down by their sins, standing before You, seeking forgiveness, repentance, a new journey to begin.

Forgive us and our parents and our children, and all of the believing men and women. Who is the one who asked You and was left wanting, who is the one who depended on You and was not carried, who is the one who had hope in You and was disappointed. O Allah make us people of Paradise and protect us from the Fire. We seek refuge in Your Face from being of the people of the Fire. Protect us, our families and our umma from all evil, and heal the hearts of a believing people. Ameen.

Witr du’a read and translated by Sh. Ammar AlShukry

Al-Mulk 67:1-2

Blessed, exalted is He
who holds all control in His hand
who in His Hand is the dominion
power
authority
and He is over all things
able
competent.
Who created death
and life
so that He may test you
who among you
is indeed
– not most, but –
best in deed
excellent in action
beautiful in character
and He is
the All-Mighty
the Exalted
Most Honorable
the One
deserving of our
best
worship
But if we fall short
If we falter
Know –
that He is
the Oft-Forgiving
the Most Forgiving.

“Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. Who has created death and life, that He may test you, which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.”

Far but not forgotten

O Allah, help our brothers and sisters all over the globe. O Allah, have mercy on those who have passed. Heal the sick. Help the needy. Feed the hungry. Clothe the destitute. Lift up the oppressed. Make firm their feet. Strengthen their resolve. Increase them in faith.

Help them. O Allah help them. O Allah, they have no helper other than You. And You are the Best Protector and the Best Supporter. O Allah, You are more Merciful to them than us. So have mercy on them. And forgive us. Accept from us. And join us with them, and those who You love, in Your Gardens of Peace.

Bloom

Sometimes I catch myself wishing that I was a child again. Wide-eyed, young, unburdened by my mistakes and without sin. But if I hadn’t grown, I would never have known my Lord. My Kind, Loving, Generous Lord. His Love. His Forgiveness. His Mercy – its vastness, its depth. And for this, I am so grateful.

My Merciful Lord. So many times I’ve stumbled, grumbled, and forgotten His favours. Sinning with the very blessings He has given me. Yet He is always with me, guiding me, showering me with His Blessings, embracing me in His Grace. And for all of this, I am so grateful.

I want to do better, be better.

Al-Hijr 15:49

The Forgiver
The Oft-Forgiving
The Most Forgiving
The Repeatedly Forgiving
The One Who loves to forgive
The One Who covers our flaws
The One Who erases our mistakes
as though they were never there
The One Who replaces our bad deeds
with good deeds when we repent
The One Who continuously accepts repentance
The One Who is Most Merciful to His servants
The One Whose Mercy exceeds everything.

“Tell My servants that I am indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Indeed those who believe and do good…

be it male or female (4:124), Allah will guide them because of their faith (10:9), answer their prayers and increase for them from His bounty (42:26). Allah will certainly absolve them of their sins (29:7) and admit them among the righteous (29:9). They are the best of creation (98:7) and will have the highest of ranks (20:75). Allah will bestow for them affection (19:96) and admit them into His Mercy. For them is forgiveness, a generous provision and a great, never-ending reward (5:9; 22:50; 34:4; 3:57; 18:2; 35:7; 41:8, 95:6). Their efforts will not be denied nor discounted (21:94), and they will not fear injustice nor deprivation (20:112). That is the absolute triumph (45:30).

Joy awaits them and an excellent place of return (13:29). Paradise (7:42). Lofty dwellings with cool shade, flowing rivers, as entertainment and accommodation (4:57; 10:9; 18:107; 22:14; 22:56; 29:58; 31:8; 47:12). For them is whatever they wish for (42:22). They will have pure spouses, and be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearl, and their garments will be of silk (4:57; 22:23). They will abide therein, forever (2:25; 7:42; 2:82; 4:122). Indeed, all these, for those who have believed and done good.

Removed from their hearts is any bitterness or ill feeling, and they will say, “All praise and thanks be to Allah, who has guided us to this. Had Allah not guided us, we would never have found the way.” (7:43)

Az-Zumar 39:53

loved and lost
forgotten and strayed
erred and sinned
stumbled and fell
hurt
and
healed
found and forgiven
guided and raised
loved and restored
given a chance
and another
and another

Say: “O My servants who have transgressed against their own selves. Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Some Words of Encouragement

To the tired or saddened heart… I can offer you some encouragement, some of the promises of the Most Kind.

Allah is with you. He is with the patient1, those whose hearts are good2 and those who do good3. Allah does not burden you beyond what you can bear4. He wants ease for you, and He does not wish for you hardship5. And anything that you face from pain or grief, it only befalls you either because Allah loves you and is therefore testing you6, or He loves you and is therefore purifying you from your sins7. Through your tests, Allah increases your reward8 and rank that you may be closer to Him. So do not despair of the Mercy of Allah9. He does not tire of listening to you and answering your prayers and forgiving you10. And Allah is as you think He is11. If you perceive Him to be Most Kind, and Most Generous, indeed to you, Allah is Most Kind and Most Generous.
