Strangers

Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood stated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Indeed, Islaam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange just as it began, so glad tidings of paradise be for the strangers.” It was said to the Prophet (ﷺ): “Who are they?” He (ﷺ) responded, “They are those who rectify when the people become corrupted.” (Muslim, at-Tirmidhee, Ahmad; authenticated by Al-Albaanee)

In another narration, he (ﷺ) said: “Those who rectify themselves [and others] when the people have become corrupt.” (Ahmad and At-Tabaraanee)

What does it mean to be strange
To look different
To be inclusive yet
exclusive
Defensive
in dining and other things
but never offensive
To be misunderstood
and given labels
When the reality is that
our religion is nothing but
beautiful
It is the reason for our betterment
And source of our strength
It is our solace and calm
In it we take pride
and for it we don’t
compromise.
